Imo State University, Owerri (IMSU) Admission Process Explained “All you need to know”

IMSU admission process steps outlined
When seeking for admission in IMSU, first thing to do is registering for JAMB and participating in JAMB examination
Cut off mark for universities has always been 180 and above over the years. That is, if you score 180 and above you have passed level one of IMSU admission processes and that qualifies you to participate in IMSU post UTME examination.
After participating in JAMB and having scored 180 and above, when application for IMSU post UTME begins, the next thing to do is to purchase the form at once and sit for the post UTME examination if the school conducts exam for that session.
Studying IMSU post UTME past questions has been the biggest secret to passing IMSU post UTME examination over the years. Before the examination, endeavor to study past questions and answers consistently.
After writing the post UTME examination, you simply wait for the result to be published by the school. Once result published, you check yours at once and wait for the first admission list to be released by the school.
How IMSU screen and admit candidates
The School usually release cut off mark for every courses after the post UTME result has been released and the cut off mark is assigned based on the performance of the post UTME candidates of that year, that is, if the performance is great, the cut off mark will be higher that when the performance is poor.
The cut off mark method is only used when the school organizes and conducts a post UTME exercise (post UTME exam), sometimes the school do not conduct the post UTME exercise, and when this happens to be the case, IMSU uses the screening method whereby they will investigate your JAMB score and WAEC result to know if you are fit and qualified for the course you are applying for.
How IMSU gives admission
Unlike every other Nigerian higher institution, IMSU uploads its admission JAMB caps. At first IMSU will release its first list also known as merit list. This list is strictly for those that reached the requirement of the course they applied for, that is, their score meets the given departmental cut off mark.
For those who will not be admitted on the first list or merit list will have to get the supplementary form at once to increase their chances of getting admission once more. See meaning of supplementary form below
IMSU supplementary form
Imo State University Supplementary form is meant to help students who did not reach the departmental cut of mark for the courses they had earlier applied for and were not offered admission on the first list/merit list; The supplementary form helps them to choose another course with lesser cut off. Applicants are advised to also change their course in JAMB
After getting the supplementary form you may ask, what next? well, after getting the supplementary form you simply wait for the list to be released by the school authority.
Why you need to get IMSU supplementary form
You might want to give up after seeing the IMSU first list or merit list and your name is not included. You don’t have to my dear. IMSU merit list is usually few names of those that scored extra high, usually 30% of the overall list. Supplementary list consists of majority of the names that will be published.
Demerits of IMSU supplementary
When IMSU supplementary list is released, you may not get your desired course because major courses are not available therein, such as law, med lab, nursing etc. courses of highest demand.
Admission requirement
After all admission has been released (merit and supplementary list), All admitted candidate are to make some necessary payments and get some required documents which will be listed below.
Steps to take after getting admission
- Accepting of admission on JAMB capd
- Printing of Original JAMB result slip
- Printing of JAMB admission letter
- Payment of acceptance fee
- Payment of ancillary fee
- Pre admission screening test
- Payment of Matriculation gown
- Payment of Sports
- O Level Verification
- IMSU admission letter
Other required documents are
- Local Government Identification letter
- Birth certificate
- Attestation letter (From traditional ruler or pastor)
- O level result (WAEC or NECO)
- Passport photographs
- First School Living Certificate (FSLC)
Admitted candidates are mandated to make the above payments and also get the documents listed above as it will be required for Screening which will commence immediately after school resumes.

Failure to get the following documents and make the following payments listed above will hinder such candidate from a successful screening and will not be offered matriculation number which signifies that you are a full fledged student of Imo State University, Owerri

Faculty clearance/Acquiring of mat. number
It is apparent that all admitted student of IMSU, after making all the required payments and getting all the required documents proceed to their faculty to do their clearance and acquire their mat number from their various faculties as it signifies that you are a full-fledged student.

How to do your faculty clearance
Clearing yourself from the faculty and getting your matric number from your faculty in IMSU is not really an arduous task. It starts by you getting all the required documents which will be needed for the clearance listed below.
- JAMB Print out
- Original JAMB result
- JAMB admission letter
- Post UTME print out
- Post UTME result print out
- Admission status print out
- Acceptance fee payment receipt
- School fees/ancillary fee payment receipt
- IMSU admission letter
- Attestation Letter
- Local government Identification letter
- Verified WAEC by the school
- Primary school testimonial
- Birth certificate
- At least 4 copies of passport.
Once all the above documents are readily available, simply go to your faculty with them to the office of the clearance/faculty officer.
He will scrutinize your documents and give you four files.
Recommended; How to verify the authenticity of your admission in Imo State University (IMSU)
After collecting the four files, you are expected to fill it and and return it with the photocopies of the above listed documents placed in each of your file.
Immediately four files are returned, you will be issued your matriculation number.
How to retrieve lost matric number
If you have lost your matric number and you need it back, simply go to your faculty officer and report. The reconciliation/faculty officer will search for your files or departmental list and give to you your matric number.
