UNILAG honours 43 Law Graduates who achieved 1st Class Honours at 2024 NLS Bar Exams

The Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, rolled out the red carpet on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, to celebrate forty-three (43) exceptional alumni of the Faculty who achieved First-Class honors at the 2024 Nigerian Law School Bar Examinations

This remarkable feat, one of the highest numbers recorded by a single university in Nigeria, was celebrated in the Faculty’s Boardroom by a distinguished crowd of the honorees, faculty members, students, and alumni, including Hon. Minister Dr. Jumoke Oduwole and Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), Professor Bola Oboh, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, FAS, at the event, commended the Faculty’s consistency in academic excellence and described the achievement as an affirmation of the institution’s enduring academic culture and steadfast commitment to excellence. She charged the new lawyers to uphold the highest ideals of the legal profession, in character and practice.

A visibly-elated Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Abiola Sanni, SAN, described the graduates’ performance as “stellar, reflecting the Faculty’s rigorous academic standards”.

The occasion offered him an opportunity to also share updates on recent faculty milestones, including a strategic partnership with the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom.

In their goodwill messages, Dr. Oduwole and Professor Oyewo emphasized the need for the graduates to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and national service, while remaining loyal ambassadors of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The high point of the ceremony was the formal recognition of the forty three (43) honorees, with each receiving a commemorative medal and heartfelt congratulatory handshake from Dr. Oduwole and Professor Oboh; a moment that symbolized not just personal achievement but institutional pride.

Alumni Association Unveils Bold New Initiatives

The event provided a platform for the University of Lagos Alumni Association to reaffirm its commitment to the university’s growth.

Addressing the gathering, Alumni President Worldwide, Engr. Ife Oyedele, FNSE, announced plans to launch the UNILAG Alumni App, a digital platform designed to connect graduates across generations and geographies.

He described the UNILAG Alumni App as much more than just a networking tool “as the platform will serve as a vibrant digital ecosystem; one that not only connects past and present graduates, but also celebrates individual and collective achievements, fosters mentorship across generations, and supports the building of a lasting legacy of impact”.
